Location
Located at the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey is one of the largest viticultural appellations in Burgundy with its 650 ha of vineyards, 85 “village” appellations and 32 Premiers Crus.
Soil The Clos l’Evêque terroir is located at the top of the slope near the village of Etroyes. The vines face southeast and grow in predominantly limestone-based brown soil.
Grape variety 100 % Pinot Noir.
Vinification Traditional Burgundian vinification in open vats with punching of the cap and long maceration. Aged in oak barrels (25 to 30% new oak) for 14 to 16 months to lend structure and complexity to the wine.
Robe Beautiful ruby red with cherry coloured highlights.
Nose Fresh on the nose with notes of forest undergrowth, some musky nuances (leather) and a touch of liquorice.
Palate Straightforward and fleshy, this wine boasts dense structure and nice tannins underpinned by a limestone base.
Serve with This Mercurey Premier Cru will show off nice cuts of red meat and lamb, braised or served in a sauce. It is the perfect accompaniment to exotic dishes such as spicy Caribbean chicken fritters or chicken breast in coconut milk. It stands up well to strong cheeses such as Epoisses and Soumaintrain.
Serve at 15 to 16°C.
Cellaring potential From 5 to 7 years.
