Location
Located at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Clos de Vougeot alone occupies a major part of the commune of Vougeot, which lies between Chambolle-Musigny and Flagey-Echezeaux. This 50-hectare walled vineyard is divided among 80 owners and benefits from a unique terroir.
Soil The vines are planted in a mixture of brown limestone scree and calcic brown soil and face east/southeast.
Grape variety 100 % Pinot Noir.
Vinification Traditional Burgundian vinification in open vats with long maceration and punching of the cap. Aged in oak barrels (50 to 60% new oak) for 14 to 18 months to lend harmony to the wine and ensure optimal maturity.
Robe Magnificent, intense ruby red in colour with garnet highlights.
Nose The bouquet is predominantly floral (rose, violet, reseda) with a wide range of red and black berry notes that open up to aromas of liquorice and tea.
Palate Round and fleshy on the palate with lovely structure and velvety tannins. The finish is intensely long. Exceptional ageing potential.
Serve with Try this Grand Cru with red meats, roasted game or other plats de chasse. It would be perfect with Normandy style pheasant or thyme-scented rack of lamb. As for cheese, opt for a creamy Soumaintrain or Saint-Florentin and for dessert, why not match it with strawberry carpaccio with balsamic vinegar or white chocolate and coconut cheesecake.
Serve at 15 to 16 °C.
Cellaring potential 10 years or more.
